Scripps Conference Honors Natural Products CRO Medicus Research with Top Three Awards
The 2015 Scripps 12th Annual Natural Supplements Conference awarded First, Second and Third Place honors for scientific posters to Medicus Research, the global contract research organization that specializes in the study of natural health products.
- (1888PressRelease) January 29, 2015 - San Diego, CA - "We are grateful for the opportunity to present our research at this prestigious conference, and we are truly humbled by having been recognized with First, Second and Third Place awards," said Dr. Jay Udani, Founder and CEO of Medicus Research.
"It was an honor to present our research alongside the distinguished work of the other participants," Dr. Udani continued. "All of the poster entries represented the highest quality of work in our industry."
The Scripps conference, held annually in San Diego, through a peer review process, selects the most relevant abstracts and scientific posters that present a concise, clinically relevant overview of their evidence-based research. Award winners were announced Jan. 18.
First Place was awarded to the Medicus Research poster for "The Effects of a Proprietary Blend of Natural Enzymes on Cardiovascular Health: An Open-Label Study," which exhibited the positive results for Arthur Andrew Medical's dietary supplement, Neprinol. The 12-week study used innovative blood viscosity measurement tools to reveal statistically significant results supporting the product claims.
Second Place honors went to the poster entry for Allysian Sciences' "The Effects of a Proprietary Dietary Supplement Formula on Cognitive Function: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, remote study." The study results showed that MasterMind neurotrophic dietary supplement was effective in improving memory in healthy volunteers. The study utilized the CRO's proprietary and patented virtual system for testing cognitive function.
Medicus Research, along with its technology company, Systemedicus, are pioneers in the field of proctored virtual research clinic study visits for cognitive function testing. This is not the same as the online tests or mobile "brain training" apps, which are essentially games. Their remote testing is with NeuroTrax™ and is the same assessment that is used to approve pharmaceutical drugs for Alzheimer's and other dementia treatments.
Dr. Udani, the study's Principal Investigator, explained, "As the future of clinical trials, and medicine in general, is telemedicine, we expect there to be more utilization of the Virtual Research Clinic in this and other therapeutic areas."
An innovator in clinical research, Medicus Research is the only CRO in the world to run state-of-the-art studies through a comprehensive Virtual Research Clinic, employing its Systemedicus teams in Asia, and the first to publish results of a virtual clinical trial.
Scripps' Third Place prize was awarded to the poster for "Efficacy of a Proprietary Methylsulfonylmethane Treatment for Allergic Rhinitis Induced by a Standardized Allergen: A randomized, double-blind study." In this study, Bergstrom Nutrition's MSM study product (OptiMSM®) was shown to provide significant relief of allergic rhinitis symptoms and objective nasal obstruction measurements. The Medicus study used a standardized antigenic challenge profile and the measurement by peak nasal inspiratory flow (PNIF) to test for sinus health.
Having successfully completed more than 250 studies, Medicus Research has conducted Phase I - IV clinical trials in numerous therapeutic areas, including weight loss, allergies, gut health, joint health, blood sugar, arterial function, male sexual enhancement, vitamin C and D, sleep, energy, cosmetics, pharmacokinetics and many more. All study protocols are structure/function compliant and follow guidance issued by FTC, FDA, and EFSA for subject population and endpoint selection.
