Scramble SCrib - No More Password Leaks
Scramble SCrib, an ultimate protection of passwords stored on servers. No more password leaks even when the password database is compromised. Smart Crib introduces the first product for server password security.
- (1888PressRelease) November 29, 2013 - Smart Crib, based in Cambridge, has launched a new product Scramble SCrib, to protect passwords stored on servers from compromise. The security provided by Scramble SCrib is such that password files can be published for anyone to see. Leaking or publishing of password files will not compromise a single user password.
Dr Dan Cvrcek, CTO and a former researcher at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory and banking security expert at Deloitte says: compromise of files or databases with passwords is the most visible type of attacks on passwords. Scramble SCrib makes this a history.
Passwords are currently stored on servers protected with one-way functions. These functions hide passwords but do not prevent attackers to apply the same functions on a dictionary of most popular passwords and find all weak passwords. When we say "weak", we do not mean only passwords like "letmein" or "pa$$w0rd", but many other passwords that users would expect to be more than adequate for protecting their data.
Scramble SCrib is a small USB device that can be used directly from applications or web systems. Smart Crib has also developed two platform independent proxy services to simplify use of Scramble SCrib. These implementations are in Java and Python.
The concept of RESTful Scramble SCrib proxy service is our first proposition to introduce password protection for systems running on virtual machines. RESTful proxy services allow use of Scramble SCrib devices remotely.
Scramble SCrib devices can be cloned as well as backed up to provide required level of computational capacity and redundancy for larger systems. They are easy to deploy for direct use and additional proxy services further simplify application interface.
Get in touch if you are interested in using Scramble SCrib on your systems. We will start selling Scramble sCrib at the beginning of 2014.
