Three Teachers Win SchoolWorld Teacher Power Awards Based On Votes From Fellow Teachers Around The World.
(1888PressRelease) October 24, 2009 - FAIRPORT, New York - SchoolWorld, the leading provider of Web solutions for districts, schools, and teachers, today announced the winners of the first-annual SchoolWorld Teacher Power Award program. The Teacher Power Award program rewards innovative thinking and teacher excellence by giving out Teacher Power Awards to educators who use SchoolWorld's TeacherSites(TM) solution to create fun, practical, and functional classroom websites. The top-three TeacherSites, as judged by peers, are recognized with a Teacher Power Award.
The first-place Teacher Power Award honors Gina Faulk, an Eighth Grade Algebra and Physical Science educator at Dacula Middle School of Gwinnett County Public Schools, Georgia. Gina's TeacherSites classroom website received numerous votes from peer educators based on its comprehensive use of all the advanced features of the TeacherSites solution.
"The first thing my students do every day upon entering the classroom is log in to my website to check assignments, lesson updates, and activities. Concurrently, I receive feedback that their parents are doing the same thing from their home and work computers," said Gina when describing the accessibility of her website.
Gina uses TeacherSites features such as Quizzes to allow students to take exams and prep for upcoming tests at their own pace using familiar Web-based technology. She also provides students and their parents with the opportunity to receive calendar reminders and lesson plan updates simply by logging in. Gina even uses the Blog and Poll features of TeacherSites to keep students engaged in productive discussions no matter where they are.
"My website has given my students and their parents an open door to my classroom. This has helped create a valuable connection to everyone with rich multimedia, updated content, and integrated online activities. With the direct access TeacherSites provides, I now have more time in the classroom to focus on what is important -- a fulfilling learning experience," said Gina.
The second-place Teacher Power Award was given to Yvonne Boyd, a Computer and Technology Teacher at the St. Joseph School Of All Saints Parish in Haverhill, Massachusetts while the third-place award was received by Kristina Campbell, a Fifth Grade Teacher at Oakland Elementary of Antioch School District 34 in Antioch, Illinois. Both TeacherSites classroom websites received votes based upon their in-depth use of TeacherSites tools in and outside of the classroom.
In its first year, the Teacher Power Award represents SchoolWorld's dedication to providing teachers with innovative website tools that help them create classroom websites to connect students and parents with their daily learning activities. Over three-hundred teachers entered the Teacher Power Award program by submitting their TeacherSites websites for peer review. "When we developed the initial foundation that powered TeacherSites, I was excited to learn how teachers would use their websites in and outside of the classroom," said Mike Ramsager, vice president of Internet applications for SchoolWorld. "In the many years since, teachers around the globe have surpassed all of our expectations by connecting, communicating, and collaborating every day with students, parents, and communities. I am proud to witness the endless ways in which TeacherSites has positively impacted the modern world of education!"
The Teacher Power Award includes complete award packages and a complimentary subscription to the TeacherSites solution. The winners also receive gift cards supporting The Independence Foundation, classroom supply gift baskets, a display award, a feature Seeds of Success case study on SchoolWorld.com, and an article in The Core, SchoolWorld's monthly e-newsletter.
