  • (1888PressRelease) December 22, 2011 - Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today announced a strategic technology acquisition of the Viridity EnergyCenter 2.0 platform, the flagship product of a well-known start-up specializing in DCIM management software that provides a cross-functional solution for understanding the connection between physical infrastructure, IT equipment and the applications that run on them.

With this investment Schneider Electric will acquire the intellectual property and software behind the Viridity EnergyCenter 2.0 platform, software that enables auto-discovery of IT assets to optimize capacity utilization at the IT asset level. This investment will augment the StruxureWare™ for Data Center Operations DCIM suite, which is designed to solve the most complex challenges of operating enterprise data centers.

David Cappuccio, Research Vice President and Chief of Research for Infrastructure & Operations at Gartner Inc., noted in a recent report*, "Forward-thinking companies have realized that to run data centers efficiently, and to extend their lives indefinitely, it is not logical to treat data center facilities and IT assets separately, because without one the other can't operate. When enterprises start to focus on all the components that make up the ecosystem, they will begin to make informed long-range decisions."

StruxureWare for Data Centers is a combination of Schneider Electric's market leading Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) and Data Center Facility Management (DCFM) software tools. The complete suite is able to provide data gathering, monitoring, automation, and planning and implementation functionalities to enable an integrated and multifaceted view of all the mission critical physical systems of the data center. As a cornerstone of this suite, c-level executives, data center managers and facility managers alike have complete visibility and control over their data center's daily operations.

"We are very pleased to welcome the Viridity team and their award-winning Energy Center 2.0 platform and look forward to incorporating this solution into Schneider Electric's line of software solutions," commented Jim Simonelli, CTO, IT Business, Schneider Electric. "Our entrepreneurial cultures are extremely complementary and we expect immediate synergies in the development of Schneider Electric's next generation DCIM software."

This strategic investment in Viridity's EnergyCenter 2.0 software will enable our customers to meet their most pressing data center energy challenges while gaining efficiency in all levels of their daily data center operations. The ability to measure energy consumption accurately and by device will differentiate Schneider Electric and the StruxureWare for Data Center Operations suite, ultimately helping customers make the most of their energy.

StruxureWareTM for Data Centers Operations suite is available today. Viridity's EnergyCenter 2.0 software will continue to be supported by Schneider Electric's world-class global service and support organization.
