Schmidt Design Studio creates stylish new space for Sharky's on the Pier
When Venice's renowned Sharky's on the Pier - known for its mouthwatering seafood, signature frozen drinks and stunning views of the Gulf - looked to expand its landmark location along the coast, they selected Schmidt Design Studio.

This beach restaurant has been a favorite on the Venice, Florida beach scene for over two decades and was recently named the "2013 Best Florida Beach Bar."
"The original restaurant has a throwback 1980s beach scene theme,'' said Anna Schmidt, Principal Interior Designer. "The new space will have a blend of casual mixed with a stylized beach feel - focusing on enhancing the guest's experience. The main dining area will feature panoramic views of the Gulf from the second story, a full glass wall from end to end, salt water fish tanks, vaulted ceilings, as well as two feature booths and a full dining bar complete with a sushi kitchen."
Construction is well under way on the expansion that will include 9,000 square feet for the new restaurant with 120 seats for inside dining, including 24 seats for private dining, 80 seats for patio dining, plus an additional lounge area. Customers can enjoy signature items such as "Sharky's Famous Grouper Wrap" or the "Bimini Cheeseburger" paired with a fresh made cocktail drink on the outdoor covered deck or in the comfortable bar area with a complete open view of the chefs creating these favorite dishes. Schmidt Design Studio heads the interior design of the project working with Sweet Sparkman Architects.
Some of the top design touches include:
• Use of natural materials such as glass to play off of the ocean front dining experience
• Incorporating a private dining area and custom featured booths in the main dining area
• Implementation of unique aquariums and special effect lighting to further solidify the water theme
Schmidt said the expansion of Sharky's is part of a trend for independent restaurateurs. "Strong local brands such as Sharky's should not rest on its reputation,'' Schmidt explained. Sharky's ownership identified a need for more space so they could not only serve the hungry appetites of beachgoers, but also serve a growing business for destination celebrations and corporate events alike."'
Construction is expected to be completed late fall/early winter.
