  • San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) October 24, 2011 - Scavenger Crawl (www.ScavengerCrawl.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Bay area non-profit community, has partnered with Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program (BORP) for the 6th semi-annual scavenger hunt + pub crawl + adventure race to be held Sunday, November 6. The adventure race will start at the Mission/Potrero Hill Sports Basement in San Francisco at 1:00 pm and all are invited.

Scavenger Crawl events offer an opportunity to experience a jam-packed day of adventure, optional alcoholic beverages, and "Amazing Race-like" clues through various neighborhoods in beautiful San Francisco. Each bi-annual race benefits a different charity working to improve the daily lives of resident San Franciscans. This fall, we are proud to partner with BORP, to help support programs funding athletic programs for kids and adults with physical disabilities.

Event participants' $20 dollar donation will allow BORP to continue to offer year-round competitive and recreational sports activities for disabled children and youth ages 5-19, including wheelchair basketball, power soccer, track & field, and handcycling. Under the guidance of caring volunteer alumni, coaches and staff, young athletes are able to build confidence, self-esteem and independence while developing lifetime fitness habits. Youth teams need Scavenger Crawlers' support to continue to participate in local and national tournaments.

BORP member Tony Lai states, "As a participant that's loved competing in the race over the last few years, I'm incredibly excited to work with Scavenger Crawl to raise money for an organization close to my heart. BORP has allowed me to compete and grow for years, so bringing these two groups together is an awesome opportunity." The spring race course will be completely handicap accessible to allow all athletes from the Bay Area to be able to participate.

During the Scavenger Crawl teams of 2-5 participants will have the opportunity to scour the San Francisco streets is search of clues, challenges while enjoying a couple drinks. The race is modeled off the popular television show that asks teams to race around the world in a finite amount of time. Scavenger crawlers will be given 4 hours to scour the streets of SF and finish first to win special prizes and everlasting glory.

Racers are encouraged to bring MUNI passes because the race course will cover a good sized piece of the city. Smart phones, phone-a-friends and a good pair of running shoes are recommended. Teams can also gain points by donning costumes and signing up for the event early.
