Sax Macy Fromm Foundation's Second Annual 4 Miler at Garret Mountain a Success
Walk/Run Raises More Than $60,000 for the Child Life Department at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital.
- Bergen-Passaic, NJ (1888PressRelease) September 25, 2013 - More than 400 participants of all ages turned out in force recently to run, walk and raise funds for St. Joseph's Children's Hospital at the Second Annual 4 Miler at Garret Mountain. This year's race event, sponsored by the Sax Macy Fromm (SMF) Foundation of Clifton, N.J., raised more than $60,000 to benefit the hospital's Child Life Department.
"The Second Annual 4 Miler at Garret Mountain was a beautiful fall-like day filled with energy and excitement that far exceeded our fundraising expectations," said Robert Paz, managing director of Sax Macy Fromm. "Our dedicated group of volunteers, generous sponsors and donors, and excited participants helped raise money for a great cause. The spirit and enthusiasm for this year's race was inspiring, and we look forward to making next year's event even bigger and better."
In addition to the SMF Foundation, event sponsors included more than 40 businesses, corporations and individuals, including Titanium Sponsor Valley National Bank. Consolidated Services Distributors, Inc.; Enterprise Car Rental; Food Town of Cedar Grove; and ShopRite of Wayne/Inserra Supermarkets also lent their support, donating food and beverages.
Weather conditions were perfect for the morning of fun and physical activity, as participants of all ages traveled from throughout New Jersey and beyond to traverse a challenging mix of both hilly and flat surfaces throughout Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park. The morning's events included a 4-mile run on a USA Track and Field certified race course, as well as a 1.5-mile trail walk, and 25- to 200-yard kids' dashes for youngsters ages 2 to 11.
Complete race results are posted on BEST Racing Systems' Website at http://www.bestrace.com/. Of 169 participating runners, the 4 Miler's first place male and female runners were overall winner John Hogan, 47, of Washington, N.J. with a time of 23 minutes, 22.5 seconds; and Patricia Butcher, 52, of Hawthorne, N.J. who finished the race in 29 minutes, 44.7 seconds. Special guests included Passaic County Freeholder Pasquale "Pat" Lepore, who presided over the start of the race.
SMF established its charitable foundation in 2006 as a way to give back to the local community. The SMF Foundation absorbed all expenses associated with the 4 Miler at Garret Mountain in order to donate 100 percent of the proceeds directly to the Child Life Department at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital. Reliant solely on private program support, Child Life Department staff members provide a wide variety of programs for patients up to 21 years old including medical play; pet, music and art therapy; and celebratory activities, among others.
