- Sarasota-Bradenton, FL (1888PressRelease) March 05, 2012 - Sarasota's own Sara LaRose, a tenth-grade student from Pine View School, has been selected to travel as a People to People Student Ambassador, in the summer of 2012. Sara was nominated, and accepted to travel on the 19-day European Discovery program in July. Sara is the only student from Sarasota and Manatee Counties selected to travel. The 2012 European Discovery delegation will travel across the world to explore France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy.
This 19-day global exchange consists of meetings with government officials, interaction with other high school students, educational & cultural activities, as well as home stays with host families. Sara will also earn high school and college credit because of the many educational and cultural elements incorporated in the program. Upon her return home, Sara plans to share the experience via essays, and possibly with visits to schools and civic clubs in the Sarasota community.
Nomination to this program was based in part on the recommendation of peers, instructors, and community leaders. Once nominated students are carefully interviewed and evaluated before their acceptance into the program, which is based on a demonstration of leadership and citizenship, a desire to learn about diverse cultures, and a willingness to venture into the world in the name of peace, friendship, and understanding.
"Sara has always had a desire to help people, and causes, and especially to travel the world, now she is fortunate enough to be able to just that," says Tim LaRose, Sara's Dad. "Sara has been happiest when she's traveling; several times with her family to New York City, and once to Colombia, South America in 2009 with a close friend of the family. She loved it!"
"This will change Sara, from student teen to young adult leader. Who knows where this ultimately takes her life in the future. The more we read about People to People Ambassador Programs, and the effect they have on students, the more we know it's simply life changing!" says Melanie LaRose, Sara's Mom. "We are so happy for Sara and very proud of her."
