Samantha Deeley, an experienced scrap metal purchaser, has joined Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman & Son as Metal Buyer and Head of the newly formed Industrial Scrap Division. This was announced by Adam Weitsman, president of the company.
- (1888PressRelease) February 02, 2011 - Owego, NY - Adam Weitsman, president of Upstate Shredding - Ben Weitsman & Son, today announced that Samantha Deeley has joined his organization as Scrap Metal Buyer. Ms. Deeley will head the Company's newly established Industrial Scrap Metal Division. Before joining Upstate, Deeley spent eight-years with BorgWarner Morse TEC holding graduating positions from Production Planner to Senior Buyer to Master Scheduler for the automatic transmission and transfer-case chain manufacturer.
"I got to know Samantha over a year working with BorgWarner as their scrap metal dealer. She impressed me with her knowledge of the industrial metals markets and organizational skills," said Weitsman. "Today, the industrial segment represents less than five percent of the business in the region we service, so there's enormous opportunity for growth in that respect. On top of that there are greater opportunities as manufacturing continues to recover in our expanded footprint due to recent acquisitions we've made. Our commitment to Samantha and creation of this new division dedicated to industrial generators further demonstrates our commitment to these customers to provide more efficient services and deliver greater value for their scrap," he added.
"My priorities will be skewed towards industrial accounts which fit my experience in industrial manufacturing environments," Deeley commented.
Samantha Deeley is a Dean's Scholarship graduate of Ithaca College School of Business with a BS in marketing concentration. Upon graduation in 2003, she joined BorgWarner Morse TEC as an Associate Production Planner and left the company as Master Scheduler for the company's assembly operations.
"When I was at BorgWarner, we approached Upstate to handle our scrap metal directly," "The scrap business from the purchasing side at Borg was sometimes portrayed as a dirty, cutthroat business. I didn't see that from Upstate. I saw a very ethical, straightforward, professional operation. That was refreshing and what attracted me to Upstate. The business growth potential here is fantastic, especially with a division designed to focus on industrial scrap. Upstate is continuing to hire, invest in infrastructure and rapidly expand through numerous acquisitions. That's a good sign." Deeley concluded.
Upstate Shredding LLC-Ben Weitsman & Son, Inc. is the largest privately owned scrap metal processor and recycling operation on the east coast as well as the fastest growing private scrap metal company in the country. Over the past few months, in additional to increasing its scrap yard labor and trucking force, and major upgrades to equipment, the Company has hired Scott J. Collins as General Manager, Phillip M. Krieger as Chief Financial Officer and Adam S. Rosenthal in the newly created position of Director of Acquisitions.
