Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) May 11, 2011 - The Sagemont School had an amazing 2010-2011 school year and is looking forward to reaching record attendance numbers and talent this fall. The school has set its sights on creating champions: students who excel in athletics, academics and the arts.

Sagemont Lions were proud to win the state FHSAA championships in both basketball and tennis this past year. Sagemont Lions boys varsity basketball team made school history in March by winning the class 2A FHSAA State Championship defeating First Academy 53-41. The Lady Lions basketball team also went to the state championship games but came up just a little short in the finals. Later, in April, Sagemont boys tennis team won the state championship further bringing recognition to the school on a state level.

Students like 2011 Sagemont Valedictorian, Zack McCourt, made sure to take advantage of Sagemont's flexibility and solid academic curriculum. Zack worked hard to maintain his tennis career and academics. He carried
a 5.14 GPA with a full load of Advanced Placement classes, and is ranked as the #1 Boys Tennis Player in Florida and #9 Boys Player (18 yrs old) in the United States. Zack will play tennis at Princeton next year.

It is Sagemont's philosopy that its athletes succeed both on and off the field. "The first goal of any of these student-athletes needs to be their education," explains Eric Simmonds, Athletic Director. "Playing in high school athletics will help to create memories for a lifetime, but it will not help create their lives. The kids know that their education comes first and foremost and getting into the best fit college that they can attend is what will help them be successful later in life."

Athletics is not the only arena where Sagemont is creating champions. The high school thespian team received state level recognition in 2011. Sagemont's production of Dracula was selected to perform as a Mainstage Production at the 2011 Florida State Thespian Festival. The troupe brought back many superior ratings, and thespian, Christopher Merlino, was a recipient of one of ten thespian scholarships awarded at the festival.

The Thespians also received 10 prestigious Cappies nominations.
Students like Alexis Lopez-Cepero, Nicholas Cardamone, and Emily Maddox, also benefitted from taking advantage of all that Sagemont had to offer during their high school career. Cepero excelled at Sagemont as a National Honor Society student participating in Math Honor Society, Model United Nations, Forensics Club, and was also an active Eagle Scout with Boys Scouts of America. Nicholas Cardamone, Senior Class President, also was the Varsity Cross
Country Team Captain. Cardamone graduated from this year's class of Weston University and also captured the communities attention as a YMCA intern to the Weston Branch Executive Director and held a position as a student advisory board member. Emily Maddox is graduating early as she received a special invitation from University of North Florida to join their music program. She spent her career at Sagemont heavily involved in academics, music and stage performance. Emily acted, sang, provided background music, and worked backstage for numerous productions. She was also an integral part of Sagemont's award winning thespian team.

Sagemont is dedicated to working with each student to help them create the future of their desire. Early college guidance, support for extracurricular activities, and a strong college prep curriculum is part of the recipe for creating champions.

The Sagemont School offers a college prep curriculum and operates two campuses in Weston, Fl. In Pre-K through Grade 5, The Sagemont School provides core concepts in a creative environment combined with weekly specials that include science, art, music, Spanish for non-native & native speakers, swimming, PE and media and technology.
