These workshops are designed to instill confidence and help facilitate the skills sets needed to enter the job market and provide for their families.

The 2013 Women's Empowerment Series, which is made possible through a grant from the Verizon Foundation, commences on March 2nd and features a series of 8 workshops covering topics designed to increase self-esteem and build healthy interpersonal relationships, develop successful goal setting techniques, educate and understand financial planning that leads to financial independence, instruct them how to write a resume and hone their job search skills. The technical component teaches clients computer literacy skills as well as addressing the skills sets needed to complete online searches and to navigate their way through other relevant Internet applications and programs. The workshop wraps in weeks seven and eight with a dress for success workshop and an interviewing and professionalism class designed to help the clients win the job interviews for their ideal job choice or better yet, be the stepping stone towards their chosen career path. Week nine is a graduation commencement ceremony. The Women's Empowerment Program is designed to launch participants on the road to total self-reliance and independence; all program activities will take place at the Safespace Women's Empowerment Center located on shelter grounds.

The Verizon Foundation is focused on accelerating social change by using the company's innovative technology to help solve pressing problems in education, healthcare and energy management. Since 2000, the Verizon Foundation has invested more than half a billion dollars to improve the communities where Verizon employees work and live.

"Verizon is pleased to support this important effort by Safespace to serve victims of domestic violence and empower them to improve their lives," said Pam Tope, Florida region president of Verizon Wireless.

Our empowerment program strives to instill lifelong skill sets in our clients. We are very pleased with the curriculum Ms. Rutledge has put together for the 2013 calendar. Classes begin on March 2nd and will be attended by residents of Safespace North Shelter, In Transitional Housing and clients served by other branches of the Miami-Dade County Advocates for Victims Program.
