A signing ceremony was held on Monday, June 6, attended by Yavuz Erkmen, the Governor of Denizli; Mahmut Oguz, the Director of Education; Mehmet Gülbas, the Mayor of Kaklik; Dr. Ralph Jaeger, General Manager of RWE & TURCAS Güney Elektrik Üretim A.S. and CFO of RWE Turkey Holding A.S., and Pinar Öztürk, Corporate Communications Manager of RWE Turkey Holding.

    Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Ralph Jaeger, General Manager of RWE & TURCAS Güney Elektrik Üretim A.S. and CFO of RWE Turkey Holding A.S. explained that they were committed to social development in the region in addition to contributing to its economy. Jaeger said, “As you know, we held the groundbreaking ceremony for the natural gas combined cycle power plant to be built in Kaklik, Denizli. The people of Denizli made us feel right at home. This is why, in addition to this first step we take to improve education today, we are committed, and will remain committed, to invest in health, culture art, sports and science projects in the region.”

    Also speaking at the ceremony, Denizli Governor Yavuz Erkmen said that they believed that the power plant to be constructed by RWE&TURCAS in Kaklik would provide long-term and sustainable benefits to the region, and thanked RWE&TURCAS Güney Elektrik Üretim A.S. for their commitment to the region.

    The collaboration between RWE&TURCAS Güney Elektrik Üretim A.S. and the City of Kaklik and the Parent-Teacher Association involves the construction of 23 new classrooms in two schools. Construction will begin in June and is scheduled to be completed for the 2011-2012 academic year. 18 classrooms will be built for the Kaklik Primary School and 5 for the Sehit Eyüp Altun Primary School, which is a sister institution. This will enable 800 students in the region to receive better education.

    The RWE&TURCAS Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant, the groundbreaking ceremony for which was held in Kaklik, Denizli on April 13, 2011, entails an investment of 500 million Euros. The plant is currently under construction, employing 300 people. The plant will have a capacity of 775 MW, and when commissioned by the end of 2012, will provide electrical power to 3.5 million residential customers. The plant will operate at a net efficiency of 56%, and will be one of the most modern and environmentally-friendly plants in Turkey.

    In October 2009, RWE&TURCAS Güney Elektrik Üretim, a joint venture of RWE (70%) and Turcas Petrol (30%) signed the EPC-contract with Metka for the engineering and construction of the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Denizli.
