- San Diego, CA (1888PressRelease) August 07, 2013 - Royal India Restaurant, 2013 recipient of the Gold Medallion Award from the California Restaurant Association, announced the celebration of "Rakhi" at its Downtown location, in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County (http://www.SDBigs.org/), this month.
From Monday, August 19th through Friday, August 23rd, the public is invited to dine at Royal India and have 20% of their checks donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County.
On Wednesday, August 21st, Royal India Downtown will host 20 matches from Big Brothers Big Sisters for a complimentary dinner and entertainment to celebrate the summer holiday. Matches will enjoy a traditional Indian meal complete with a Bollywood-dance performance and music. Matches will also participate in the traditional "bracelet exchange," connecting them spiritually for life.
The actual festival of Rakhi is celebrated this year on August 21st and is one of the most unique of all Indian festivals. On this day, sisters tie a sacred thread of Rakhi on their brothers' wrists and, in return, the brothers promise to protect their sisters "for as long as they live."
Guests who dine at the Downtown Royal India location during the week of August 19th need only mention the word Rakhi or include it in their reservation online to partake in the charitable event.
