Roundtable Series Development Workshop (Playwrights Local)
New program of free public readings presented in two sequences in October/November 2017 and January/February 2018, all at Waterloo Arts.
- Cleveland-Lorain-Elyria, OH (1888PressRelease) October 04, 2017 - PLAYWRIGHTS LOCAL ANNOUNCES ROUNDTABLE SERIES DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP - Playwrights Local announces the Roundtable Series, a new development workshop focused on public readings of plays in progress. Each of this program’s sessions is dedicated to presenting and discussing a single full-length or longer one-act project. Staged and table readings of these locally written works are free to attend and require no tickets or reservations. The Roundtable Series is an open workshop for all playwrights from Northeast Ohio.
“The Roundtable Series provides a form of development that playwrights here have been missing,” says David Todd, Artistic Director of Playwrights Local. “That is, one that delves into complete plays as opposed to scenes or fragments. This helps the authors get a more cohesive sense of how their plays are working.”
Readings of early-draft plays in this series may be presented in a casual, “table” format, while advanced works are presented as formal staged readings. “Although all of the sessions we have lined up so far are staged readings, the concept of the ‘roundtable’ is important to this program,” says Todd. “Each reading will be followed by a talkback with attendees and other playwrights and dramaturgs, which is the kind of focused attention playwrights need.”
The first season of Playwrights Local’s new Roundtable Series will consist of two sets of readings: Fall 2017 and Winter 2018. Fall 2017 readings will run on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m., and will feature the following playwrights and works:

All events in the Roundtable Series will be held at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts (397 E. 156th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44110). Readings are free and open to the public, and tickets or reservations are not required. Programs are intended for adults and teens. “It’s also important that the Roundtable Series is open to all playwrights as opposed to being by invitation or selective membership,” says Todd. “We think this is an essential service for the community. For now, we’re making selections for this series from the plays we received in our recent call for submissions. However, that is open to everyone and free of charge, and of course all playwrights are welcome to attend these readings and participate in the talkbacks.”
