According ROOTS Owner Kristen King, "It tells a story of the spirit of the human who chose the color, style, energy of. It waves, like a flag, softly, boldly, intensely, quietly, crisply announcing "THIS IS WHO I AM" inside my hair".

Sometimes, the hair flag is at half-mast. It's been burdened, neglected, tortured ,like a rescue dog, searching for the hair care that will restore its beauty. Hair is beautiful! Fly your HAIR FLAG!

- Contest begins April 1, 2013
- Submissions accepted through April 15, 2013

- Write a poem about someone your know or yourself who needs a hair makeover.
- The makeover will include color, cut, shampoo, conditioning, & style plus products to take home.
- YOU need NOT to be perfect in your poetry, for poetry, is NOT perfect! Just have fun with it!
- In your poem, list 6 reasons why you or someone needs this makeover.
- Example:
- I lost my job
- The kids are sick
- My unemployment hasn't kicked in, yet
- My roots are gray, haven't had it colored since May
- I've taken to wearing a hat, EVERY DAY!
- Oh, Help me, please I have split ends like you won't believe
- I have a HUGE interview, as an anchor, on NYBC.
- The poetry should reflect 6 reasons why you or the person you are entering needs the makeover.
