Abstract
For the past years, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been fighting the scourge of illegal and spoofed robocalls. Earlier this year, the commission proposed a decision that will allow phone companies and carriers to aggressively block unwanted robocalls before they reach consumers. The decision also allows consumers to prohibit calls from any number that is not found in their contact list. With the proposed and implemented impactful policy initiatives, and strong enforcement actions, the FCC took a bold stand in protecting and empowering consumers.
However, as far as this new blocking technology give out benefits to consumers, the current decision does not prevent carriers from charging consumers for this blocking technology to stop robocalls. Moreover, even if this decision will be established, there are still multiple issues to be considered.
