Robert Geneid Talks To Oxford Business Group On Sarawak's Ecotourism Industry
Robert Geneid, Managing Director of Borsarmulu Resort and Board Member of Tourism Malaysia, has an interview with Oxford Business Group about the tourism industry in Sarawak, Ecotourism in Sarawak and the UNESCO World Heritage Site status of Mulu National Park.

Robert Geneid is an experienced businessman in the field of tourism and especially in eco-tourism. He has developed the Miri Marriot Resort and Spa and the Royal Mulu Resort, both international hotels. He has also served on the board of Tourism Malaysia and the Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
In the interview, Robert Geneid talks about the huge recognition when Gunung Mulu National Park was named as a UNESCO World Heritage site. He said that this status has brought greater exposure for the National Park and the Mulu region to the international tourists and especially to the seasoned and well travelled adventurers.
Robert Geneid also shared his thoughts on ecotourism in Sarawak. He sees the potential in this niche market by becoming a unique and memorable experience for those seasoned travellers who are looking for a different adventure.
North Asia, for him, is looked as a potential source of investment and as also a large market that is needed for the growth of the industry. He relates that Sarawak is able to leverage on its rare attractions that is held in high regards by tourists from those countries. "They will want to invest in Sarawak's tourism sector to better cater to their own market.", Robert Geneid said in the interview with Oxford Business Group.
Robert Geneid understands that with the World Heritage Site Status comes a bigger responsibility. Conservation efforts are needed but it has to be balanced with development. Without proper planning that does both conservation and development in tandem, the whole site will not be sustainable.
