Robert Aitken Selects New College of Sarasota, Florida As Site For First USA Advanced Flute Masterclass July 11 - 19th, 2015
New College of Florida in Sarasota hosts Robert Aitken's "Masterclass On The Bay", a first for USA flutists. Nine days of group exercises, individual coaching and chamber music culminate with a free public concert featuring class participants and Robert Aitken.
- Sarasota-Bradenton, FL (1888PressRelease) October 31, 2014 - In a nine day masterclass held at New College of Florida in Sarasota, Robert Aitken works closely with fifteen select, highly-advanced flutists in his first-ever offering of this type in the USA. His "Masterclass On The Bay" held July 11th through the 19th in 2015 leads participants through innovative breathing, intonation and tone exercises and suggests performance interpretations for important flute literature.

Flutists sign up for the masterclass as an active participant, playing solo repertoire for Aitken's coaching and performing in chamber ensembles under his direction - or attend as an auditor, observing the teaching sessions and playing along in the group exercises.

About Robert Aitken:
Before embarking on a five-decade global solo career, Robert Aitken, at age 19, was the youngest principal flutist in a major symphony orchestra (Vancouver). He played four years with the CBC Radio Orchestra; five in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Aitken's held long-term teaching positions with University of Toronto, Banff School of Fine Arts, and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. His students hold prestigious flute positions throughout the world.
