Rob And Linda Graham, Las Vegas Attorneys, To Be Admitted To The Supreme Court Of The United States
Las Vegas Bankruptcy attorney's are accepted to be able to practice law in front of Supreme Court.
- (1888PressRelease) August 12, 2010 - Las Vegas, NV - Two married local attorneys have been accepted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States and will be sworn in by Justice Samuel Alito during the first weeks of June.
Rob and Linda Graham married before law school, 25 years ago. When they first met, neither was considering a career in law. Since 1989, however, it has been law, love and now a pinch of honor.
"We have been practicing on our own for almost two decades," Said Rob Graham. "A friend of ours asked if we would be interested in sealing that experience with admission to the United States Supreme Court and we accepted the invitation. It will be a great moment to have shared so many years together, but also to share this moment beside each other."
The husband and wife are both partners at Rob Graham & Associates, a local law firm that handles business and personal bankruptcy, asset planning and probate matters.
"We were surprised at first because it is difficult to find someone to nominate you so you can become a member of the highest court of the land," said Linda Graham. "Several years ago, we were vacationing in D.C. and even asked the court clerk if there was a list of members so we could look to see if we knew anyone and we were told that the information was not public."
Considering admission to the court to be a mystery, the couple let the matter die, as they were too busy in their practice to make it a priority. Then an invitation came from a friend who was nominating several other experienced attorneys to be sworn in at a special ceremony in June of this year. After learning about the details, and learning that this opportunity might not come again for many years, the couple accepted the invitation.
"We have been to D.C. before," added Rob Graham, "but I think we were in shorts and t-shirts. It is a very impressive place and you can only dream about appearing before the court, but I guess all dreams have an element of truth to them.'
The associate attorneys and staff have all promised to keep the wheels turning at the office while the couple takes a few days to enjoy the moment.
"It is always hard to get away from the pressing case load," Rob Graham said, "but this time, I think we can take a few days and soak it all in. I just want to get a good photograph for the scrapbook. I may only do a few things like this in my entire life, so I hope I don't blink when the flash goes off."
Justice Samuel Alito is scheduled to swear the newly admitted couple in on June 8, 2010. Court admission allows an attorney to submit appeals for their own clients and the clients of others and if an appeal is accepted, to argue before the United States Supreme Court. Both attorneys are already admitted to the 9th Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Admission to the Supreme Court is only granted after an attorney is in good standing before his or her own state's court for five or more years, they have no disciplinary issues and they receive a nomination from a current member of practicing attorneys already admitted to the court. This last criterion is the most difficult since very few attorneys practice before the United State Supreme Court in any given state.
