Rising food and beverage import opportunities for Qatar importers
Approved certification body SGS provides conformity services for food and beverage businesses selling to Qatar.

An almost 15% rise in food and beverage imports to the country since 2023 presents lucrative opportunities for businesses accessing Qatari markets. However, strict conformity regulations must be followed to ensure products can be legally sold in the country. This can present difficulties without a good understanding of the requirements.
Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health – Food Safety Department (MoPH-FSD) has implemented a Conformity Assessment of Food Scheme, which ensures imported food products are safe and meet specific standards. SGS is appointed as an approved certification body, helping businesses to tap into this valuable market.
A wide variety of food products must be compliant with the Conformity Assessment of Food Scheme, including:
• Meat and meat products
• Genetically modified ingredients and products (GMOs)
• Organic foods
• Enoki mushrooms
• Prepackaged food
• Spices
• Fresh fruit and vegetables
• Seafood
• Processed food
• Dairy products
• Vegetable oil
• Honey
Certification for these products must be obtained before they can enter the country and exporters need to apply to SGS for a certificate of conformity (CoC), providing the necessary documentation for each shipment.
