  • Salinas, CA (1888PressRelease) February 07, 2012 - Rio Grill, located in the Crossroads, Carmel, announces its first class of the 2012 "Flavor Education Series" that celebrates the food and flavors of the Southwest.

    Chef Cy Yontz created this class series for people to learn about food with friends, enjoy a tasty, flavorful meal and relax with a refreshing cocktail or glass of wine. During each class, attendees will learn the art of creating southwest inspired recipes, enjoy lunch with Chef Cy and sip matched cocktails or wine.

    Hot Tamale and Cool Agave Class:

    The first class will celebrate the art of tamale making and pairings with Rio Grill's Tequila creations. This class will be held at Rio Grill in the Santa Fe room Saturday, April 21st from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Have you always wanted to learn the art of tamale making? If so, join the fun and learn the "from scratch' way with Chef Cy. The menu will include Hatch Green Chile Pork Tamales and Guajillo Chile Chicken demonstrations. Chef Cy will demonstrate making each component of the tamales including the masa, sauces and fillings. A Rio Grill mixologist will demonstrate how to use Agave spirits to make Tequila cocktails and other Southwest creations.

    Attendees will enjoy a three course lunch created by Chef Cy paired with Agave creations. They'll also take home a goodie bag that includes seasonings made by Chef Cy that are only available as a gift for the 2012 Flavor Series classes.

    Each class is $65 inclusive. Reservations are required. Space for each class is limited to 30 attendees. In addition to the April class, there will be one in July with the season's finale being a fun-filled Southwest Fiesta in October. More details to come.
