  • Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) April 18, 2011 - TriBella, a Denver-based competitive amateur women's cycling team, announced that it has partnered with Ride for Reading, a national non-profit with a mission to promote literacy and healthy living to children from low-income neighborhoods through the distribution of books via bicycle. TriBella is asking for donations of new and used books to benefit Denver's Columbine Elementary School.

The team will deliver between 500 and 1,000 books to the school on April 29.

The team chose Columbine to be this year's recipient "due to the number of kids at Columbine that receive free or reduced-rate lunches and on account of the surrounding area's economic demographics," said team member, Erika Napoletano. "The state of education in this country is dismal enough without the proposed $332 million in budget cuts that Colorado's about to take from state educational funding for K-12 programs."

Napoletano is an outspoken presence in the social mediasphere and a local blogger celebrity. Through her widely read blog, RedheadWriting, she will match all donations made in RedheadWriting's name up to $250. (Please include a note with the book along with the shipment that indicates the donation should be applied to RedheadWriting.)

"Kids should never be denied the world-expanding gift of a book just because they or their school can't afford it," she said. "The more books we can put in the hands of kids, the better."
