Riddle Street, School for the Gifted Assesses Massive Damage to School Following Severe Weather Last Week
Needs the community's help to place the students while cleanup is underway.
- (1888PressRelease) February 15, 2011 - McKinney, TX - Children attending Riddle Street School for the Gifted had to stay home one more day as damage to their school was assessed after the severe weather last week. A broken water line caused the ceiling to cave in, flooding the school with water in some places more than three feet deep. Clean up crews and insurance are still assessing the damage and estimate the school will be out for three weeks.
"We are heartbroken to see the school in this condition, but we are working as hard as we can to find a suitable place to hold school for our students while we repair the damage over the next several weeks," said Dr. Srinivasan.
Riddle Street opened its doors in January 2010 and serves 20 students aged three to nine. It is the only private school of its kind in the Metroplex because it serves bright and gifted students using the Montessori philosophy of "follow the child" which allows children to teach themselves in a more fast-paced setting.
As gifted students, these children are more difficult to place because of their learning styles. Riddle Street staff is searching for suitable, high-quality childcare for the children but is asking the community for their help in referring potential schools and church that might take the children while the school undergoes repair. Photos and video are attached in the email for review.
Any help from the community will be greatly appreciated.
