Chennai, 13 August 2010: Chennai Event Management Services (CEMS), one of India's premier planning and production companies, today flagged down its Rickshaw Challenge, Mumbai Xpress- 2010, the country's first Human Powered Rally at the Courtyard Mumbai International Airport Hotel in Mumbai. Once again, the Rickshaw Challenge, Mumbai Xpress- 2010 was a huge success with more than $ 10,000 being raised for charitable projects of Round Table India.
The 2000 km auto rickshaw race was a grueling 14 day adventure which saw 28 participants from countries as far as South Africa, Singapore, Ireland, Canada etc. travel across Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. With the focus on human power, the adventure lovers had no official maps or equipment to help them navigate their autos and thus relied on the locals at each halt to guide them.
Each day was new and exciting- one day the adventurers were criss-crossing the balmy beaches of Goa, the next day they were running from heavy rains across South India; another day they were traipsing across the rough terrains of the Sahyadri mountains, and the following day they were being dazzled by the spectacular scenery of the lush coffee plantations of Coorg. The participants also spent time reviewing various schools associated with Round Table India where infrastructure facilities were built with funds raised by previous years' Rickshaw Challenge, Mumbai Xpress.
The Rickshaw Challenge, Mumbai Xpress- 2010's tradition of charity was matched by the generosity of spirit displayed by the locals towards the international visitors. At each halt the visitors were greeted by enthusiastic locals who not only treated them with great affection and warmth but also provided them with help and refreshments when their autos broke down. This unique access to the people of the country sets the Rickshaw Challenge apart from any other race or rally in the world.
As the race drew to a close, Team 9, 'Right Foot Red' comprising of Micheal Unrath ( UK ) & Rozanne Pilbeam ( Australia ) took away the coveted title of Rickshaw Challenge , Mumbai Xpress - 2010 World Champions! They also became the lucky winner of a free entry for two participants into the Caucasian Challenge, a 6000 km race across 11 countries in Europe. But all the participants, with their unique treasure trove of experiences, were declared winners in their own right. Once again, the Rickshaw Challenge, Mumbai Xpress- 2010 had lived up to its reputation of being the ultimate adventure experience this side of Asia.
