Integrative Psychiatrist Richard P. Brown MD Teaches "Breath~Body~Mind" Workshop October 3 and 4, 2009 at the Yoga Barn at Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts to Benefit 9/11 First Responders and Serving Those Who Serve.
Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) September 21, 2009 - Richard P. Brown, MD, co-author of How to Use Herbs, Nutrients, and Yoga in Mental Health Care (WW Norton, 2009), and internationally renowned pioneer of CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine), will give a two-day workshop for the public entitled "Breath~ Body~Mind", on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 2 pm to 7 pm Level 1 and 5-8:30 p.m. Level 2, and on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 1 pm to 6 pm Level 1 and 1-7:30 pm Level 2, at the Yoga Barn, South Road, Chilmark, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Assisted by Dr. Patricia Gerbarg, he will teach advanced breath techniques with movement and meditation to help stressed and traumatized people improve energy, sleep quality, stress resilience, and peace of mind. His work is a unique fusion of ancient and modern mind-body techniques derived from QiGong, yoga, Christian monks, Coherent Breathing, Open Focus meditation, and martial arts.
Dr. Brown’s workshop is sponsored by Serving Those Who Serve, a non-profit all volunteer organization dedicated to the health and well being of those who served at Ground Zero and related sites.

Course fee for the general public is $325. The fee is $75 for 9/11 Responders, $125 for full-time students, and $200 for caregivers, health care practitioners, and yoga teachers. Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. A certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation, Dr. Brown developed a neurophysiological theory on the effects of yoga breath on the mind and body, particularly its benefits for stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Dr. Brown is an expert on holistic approaches to psychiatry, including the use of supplements such as SAM-e and Rhodiola rosea and mind-body practices. He co-authored The Rhodiola Revolution and Stop Depression Now. Dr. Brown maintains a practice in New York City.
