About Richard Carden
S. Richard Carden is the current managing partner of McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert & Berghoff LLP. Mr. Carden is a seasoned trial attorney, with experience in both jury and bench trials in the Federal Court System, as well as in private arbitration. His patent litigation experience spans diverse technologies, including trading software, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostic equipment, telecommunications products, injection-molding systems, and automotive refrigerants. He has also litigated trademark, trade dress, and unfair competition issues.
Mr. Carden has previously served as partner in charge of Information Technology and as chair of the Litigation Section Support Group. On July 12 2016, the European Commission formally approved and adopted the EU-US Privacy Shield, providing a new compliance framework for U.S. organizations to protect the personal data of European citizens. The privacy shield is a critical tool that allows U.S. organizations to import personal data from Europe while giving EU citizens greater privacy protections and the ability to file suit in U.S. courts. However, there are many significant details that U.S. businesses must be aware of in order to avoid potential risks and threats.
