Response To A Recent Poll Issued By Litmocracy Supports Issues That Presidential Candidates Ron Paul And Gary Johnson Champion

  • (1888PressRelease) November 29, 2011 - Litmocracy, an independent publisher, think tank and writing workshop, is made of a cross section of American and international thinkers who actively write and comment on current events. No current event is more topical or more important than the 2012 United States Presidential election. In a recent survey, a cross section of Litmocracy's large membership responded to important political topics affecting the current Presidential race. The findings offered a compelling argument in support of positions that two unheralded Presidential candidates tend to agree on.

Presidential candidates Ron Paul, R-Texas, and former New Mexican Governor Gary Johnson have much in common. They both espouse views calling for smaller government, less taxation and a freer society, they're both Libertarians, they both have what some consider radical views on issues such as marijuana legalization, the IRS and the role of the government, and they both receive little media exposure. There is, though, one important commonality that is largely ignored, media recognition or not, the general platform that the two candidates share is built on a foundation that many Americans support.

Many Americans are tired of a sagging economy, high taxes, and excessive government interference in the world of business. The Litmocracy poll found broad support for ideals that Paul and Johnson both champion, such as less spending on defense and a call for a smaller, less regulatory government, yet the media has largely ignored the two candidates, favoring more mainstream nominees such as Mitt Romney and Herman Cain. In the meantime Ron Paul, who received less than 90 seconds of air time in the last Republican debate, has fought back with a grass roots campaign and an Internet blitz that has him steadily rising in the polls. The Litmocracy poll sheds light on the reasons behind Paul's popularity surge, despite his lack of media support.

According to Litmocracy founder Dave Scotese, "Almost half of the respondents indicated that unemployment, disability, malpractice, and liability insurance all cause costs to rise and therefore fail to stimulate commerce, trade, and business growth. Over half of the respondents, in the most popular answer of the survey, chose government employees and the defense industry as the group that benefits most from tax dollars." This poll suggests that people are growing tired of ever increasing legislation, and distrustful of a government that continually seems to grow and expand. The findings in this poll also suggest that the media should pay more attention to alternative candidates like Ron Paul and Gary Johnson, who challenge many issues that Americans deem important, whether the mass media chooses to ignore these issues or not.
