RES Software Receives Patent for Snapshot Intelligence Technology
Intuitive Technology Enforces Desired State after Virtual Infrastructure Restore Process.
- (1888PressRelease) June 08, 2012 - Philadelphia, PA - RES Software, the proven leader in dynamic desktop solutions, has been granted a patent for its new Snapshot Intelligence technology by the European Patent Office. Invented by RES Labs and already embedded in RES Automation Manager 2012, Snapshot Intelligence is a powerful technology for IT administrators. It records modifications made to the virtual infrastructure they oversee, cataloging transformations and automatically implementing changes that have taken place and are lost after restoring a snapshot.
It is standard operating practice for IT administrators to utilize snapshots in the process of restoring a virtual machine (VM) to a previous state, but problems arise as changes made to the VM after the snapshot was taken will be lost. RES Software Snapshot Intelligence technology detects previous snapshots, and automatically reflects the actual change history of VMs, and concurrently provides feedback on when and how snapshots were used to (automatically) re-apply lost changes to VMs.
"RES Software has always been dedicated to offering IT organizations innovative technology that has a direct and positive impact on how they execute their jobs, and Snapshot Intelligence is another prime example of our approach to serving our customers," said Bob Janssen, CTO and Co-founder of RES Software. "The approval of the patent from the European Patent Office is a strong indication that our U.S. patent application will be granted in due course."
Snapshot Intelligence helps IT to reduce the number of gold images of servers and maintenance of the remaining gold images. It allows IT to apply semi-permanent changes without the need to change the standard image. It also helps IT to audit snapshot usage and maintain a consistent change history.
