The CDC estimates that there are approximately 19 million new STD infections in the United States alone each year. Young people between the ages of 15 and 24 are especially vulnerable, accounting for almost half of all new infections. Many infections have no symptoms, meaning they go undiagnosed and untreated, often leading to severe health consequences, especially for women. Regular STD testing, treatment and awareness are the best defenses against continued spread.
