  • (1888PressRelease) February 26, 2019 - Ann Choi, Aviaq Johnston, Alice Kuipers, Kit Pearson, Karen Rivers, and Robert Paul Weston, among others, will be this year’s ambassadors for fostering creative writing in young Canadian authors.

“Every day, I sit down at my computer and make up characters and plots and settings. After they are turned into books, I hear from readers who have used their own imaginations to enter into the worlds I've created, which gives me immense joy,” says author Kit Pearson. “This is why I am pleased to support the work of Ripple Foundation in fostering creativity in youth and inspiring the next generation of Canadian authors.”

Young authors from across the country have submitted their stories to the KW4K writing challenge for a chance to have their winning story published on Amazon, Apple iBookstore, Google Play and Overdrive for the world to read. The winner will be part of the judging panel for the following year’s contest.

Included on this year’ judging panel are three previous winners of the KW4K writing challenge: Emaan Ali, Faith Emiry and Hannah Rennie.

“It is important for us to provide these youth with a platform to develop their craft beyond simply publishing their work. By including them as part of a judging panel with established authors, they will have a chance to learn from these remarkable writers,” says Ivy Wong, Founder, Ripple Foundation.

Ripple Foundation’s annual KW4K writing challenge is the only one of its kind that provides youth the opportunity to become published authors before high school, while giving back to their communities through the charity of their choice.

Each year, young authors in grades 4 – 8 from every province and territory in Canada have a chance to share their stories with the world. Since 2012, all net proceeds from the sales of their books have benefited local schools and charities.
