RENEW International's Spanish Publication Recognized for Excellence
"La justicia brota de la fe" has been selected as a winner by the Association of Catholic Publishers.
- Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) May 29, 2014 - RENEW International's latest resource on Catholic social teaching for Latino Catholics, "La justicia brota de la fe," has been selected as a second-place winner in this year's "Excellence in Publishing Awards" given by the Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP). These awards, which were given out at the Religious Booksellers Trade Exhibit in May 2014 in St, Charles, Ill., recognized the best in Catholic publishing.
"La justicia brota de la fe," was designated within the "Spanish" category. Spanish titles may encompass a variety of spiritual themes, but they must be originally published in Spanish for the U.S. market.
This book, part of a formation program for Hispanics about the commitment to social justice based on the intimate connection between faith and love of neighbor, consists of 12 sessions that explore the social doctrine of the Church from a Latino perspective. Each session includes prayers, scripture reading, reflection, faith-sharing questions, and suggested action steps. The book also promotes the New Evangelization and the spiritual growth of those who desire to deepen the practice of their faith in today's challenging society. A companion book, which expands on these themes and further connects the social doctrine to action, will be released in July 2014.
Jesuit Father Allen Figueroa Deck wrote both books for RENEW International, utilizing his deep knowledge of theology and spirituality with a keen understanding of the religious and cultural perspectives of Spanish-speaking Catholics.
According to Sr. Theresa Rickard, OP, president and executive director of RENEW International, "'La justicia brota de la fe' reflects RENEW's commitment to developing high-quality resources that meet the needs of the growing Latino Catholic population. It is also a great fit with the spirit of Pope Francis and the New Evangelization."
The Diocese of Stockton in California has begun this formation process among its Spanish-language parishioners. Mary, a parishioner at St. Stanislaw Parish in Modesto, California, valued the opportunity to participate. "By sharing my own experiences of faith in my small community," she said, "I discerned which areas of my life can be of use for others, especially how to minister to those less fortunate in our society."
Awards were given for books falling into eight other categories: Biography, Curriculum, General Interest, Inspirational, Prayer and Spirituality, Resources for Ministry, Scripture, and Theology. A "Book of the Year" was also named from among the first-place finishers in the nine categories.
