Remington College Kicks off 2013 3 Lives Effort by Celebrating National Blood Donor Month
More than 8,000 pints of blood collected through 3 Lives.
- Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) December 20, 2012 - Remington College is marking National Blood Donor Month in January by thanking its past donors and encouraging people to join the 3 Lives effort.
The Remington College 3 Lives campaign is an effort to increase the number of minority blood donors, done in partnership with America's Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA).
More than 8,000 pints of blood have been collected on Remington College campuses since the 3 Lives program began in 2010.
"National Blood Donor Month is an opportunity for us to thank all the people who have donated blood through the 3 Lives campaign, and encourage people to join in this life-saving effort by becoming blood donors," said AJ Green, spokesperson for the 3 Lives campaign.
Green, a professional singer, knows firsthand the important role that minority blood donors play - he has sickle cell disease and receives regular transfusions as part of his treatment.
According to the SCDAA, African American blood donors provide blood with unique antigens that is vital for people battling sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases. For patients requiring frequent transfusions, it's best for them to receive blood that closely matches their own.
3 facts on 3 Lives
• 1 pint of blood may save up to 3 lives

• Sickle cell is an inherited disease that affects more than 80,000 people in the U.S.; 98% of whom are African American
Every Remington College campus will hold multiple blood drives in 2013 and the public is encouraged to donate blood at these events. All blood collected will be used to help patients in the local community.
