Rehabilitation Through Photography Changes Name to Josephine Herrick Project to Honor Founder
Rehabilitation Through Photography (RTP) announces a strategic initiative to rebrand the organization the Josephine Herrick Project in honor of the professional photographer who founded the organization 72 years ago to help returning veterans from World War Two. Josephine Herrick was a pioneer.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 17, 2013 - RTP is excited to announce the rebranding initiative of the organization as Josephine Herrick Foundation, to honor role model and founder, Josephine Herrick.
The new Josephine Herrick Project's strategic plan is to continue with our 72 year plan of improving lives through the power of photography with the specific goal of increasing the number of populations we serve, increasing the number of organizations we partner with, increasing the number of volunteer photographers, increasing the number of volunteer social media and marketing volunteers, expanding the photographic industry involvement, increasing advisory board participation, and making the Josephine Herrick Project a powerful advocate for the underserved populations in a myriad of categories.

After analyzing our rich and storied history, it became clear to me, that naming the organization after our founder and such a strong and visionary woman was the best choice. We are simply carrying out the mission that Josephine started in 1941 and have continued to this day. This renaming allows us to effectively communicate our unique story of helping those in need through the power of photography for over 70 years."

In addition, we host our first event this week as the Josephine Herrick Project, Portraits of Courage featuring work from a nine-week program for veterans at the Brooklyn V.A. http://jhproject.org/events/portraits-of-courage. Another exciting component is our April 2013 Sony Nex 7 Giveaway On Facebook which is designed to increase awareness of JHP, generate Facebook "likes" and ultimately bring new volunteers and donations to the organization. Sony is a longtime supporter of JHP generously donated the prize for this contest (need url).
Josephine Herrick Foundation puts cameras in the hands of veterans, the physically and emotionally challenged, the elderly, at-risk youth, the economically disadvantaged, formerly homeless and the visually impaired. Through free photography programs, professional instruction, exhibitions, and publications, RTP students, ages 8 - 80, develop a talent for visual self-expression and connect to their communities.
Today, the Josephine Herrick Project, Enhancing Lives through Photography, continues to partner with Veteran Administrations as well as schools, social service agencies and like-minded nonprofits. Following her model, volunteer photographers educate underserved populations throughout the New York City area. Thanks to the support of the photography industry and corporate and foundation grants, JHP continues Herrick's mission with free programs, exhibitions and publications that inspire children, teens, adults and seniors with the visual language of photography, enabling them to transform communities through their artistic vision. Some of the current partners include: Birch Susser School for Exceptional Children, the Block Institute, Cartwheel Initiative, Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, Fresh Art, IUDU School for Students with Special Needs, Jewish Union Foundation, University Settlement House, Millennium High School, International High School, Warrior StillShots, and U.S. veterans in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
