Registration Of CONTESA Charity Hong Kong Is Complete
CONTESA registered as a Hong Kong charity to highlight the plight of disadvantaged and children orphaned by Aids in Zambia.
- (1888PressRelease) July 21, 2010 - CONTESA a UK registered charity that supports Aids orphans and disadvantaged children in Zambia has announced that they have registered CONTESA in Hong Kong as a tax-exempt charity.
Founder and Chair, Mrs Esnat Avon, arrived back in the UK on 10th July 2010 from a successful fundraising trip to Hong Kong where CONTESA Hong Kong held its first board meeting on 17th June 2010. Esnat Avon said about her trip, "this is absolutely wonderful news, extremely exciting times and another great step forward for CONTESA." Avon added, "Registering CONTESA in Hong Kong means tax benefits and reduced bank charges for the increasing number of Hong Kong donors, streamlining donations to orphans and disadvantaged children in Zambia."
The newly appointed Hong Kong Chair, Ms Carolyn Hopkins, a Chinese speaking Hong Kong born expatriate, explained why she decided to become involved with the work of CONTESA, "Hearing about the projects CONTESA UK have been working on and having been firm friends with Esnat for over 30 years, I wanted to help." Hopkins added, "There is a tremendous amount of work to do in this sadly ignored part of the world where poverty and HIV/Aids are rife."
As with CONTESA UK, all administration expenses will be met with specific administration donations and all donated funds will be used 100% for the feeding programmes, educational, outreach and building development projects.
During Avon's recent trip to Hong Kong she appointed three local CONTESA directors, Nigel Sayer, Lidia, Chan Wai Pik and Kelvin Avon.
Nigel Sayer is a Hong Kong born solicitor; he will be providing his legal assistance pro-bono for CONTESA. Sayer states "Every cent of the money donated to CONTESA will go to help these children have a chance in life. A small donation can go very far in Zambia." Sayer added, "A thousand Hong Kong dollars can feed fifty children for a month, these statistics are very powerful and it is my pleasure to contribute to CONTESA".
Lidia Chan Wai Pak was born in Hong Kong and runs her own accounting business in the territory. Lidia has been a strong supporter and donor of CONTESA from the charity's inception and recently donated funds for a memorial school block at Messiah Mission. Lidia explains what this means to her, "I am very pleased to know that CONTESA is helping orphans and disadvantaged children with feeding and educating them, I am proud to become a director of CONTESA".
Kelvin Avon is the youngest son of CONTESA founder Esnat Avon, Kelvin is the director of a music and dance company based in Hong Kong and as the designer of the CONTESA logo and of CONTESA's original website, was selected as CONTESA's third director, Kelvin says, "having recently moved to Hong Kong from the UK with my wife and daughter I was concerned that my involvement with CONTESA would reduce significantly." Kelvin added,"I was therefore delighted when CONTESA was registered as a Hong Kong charity as I am now able to continue my involvement with this great charity."
