- (1888PressRelease) December 05, 2012 - Has your child expressed interest in working with animals as a future career? We may have the answer that could give them the platform to explore their dreams.
The Future Vet Kids Camp is a program for aspiring young veterinarians, and returns this January at Waverley College Junior School in Sydney. The camps are now for children ages 9 to 16, hosting three separate programs in January operating the weeks of:
• January 7-11, 2013
• January 14-18, 2013
• January 21-25, 2013
Each of the five-day camps aims to educate, inspire and promote responsible pet ownership through veterinary medicine. It also teaches kids how to interact and care for various types of animals, from the four-legged to the furry, feathery and scaly.Enrolment costs $500. Spaces are limited so parents are encouraged to visit www.futurevetkidscamp.com.au to secure their child's place in the program.
" We received a lot of interest from parents to develop a camp for older teenagers, so this year we have developed a program for children aged 14-16, who are seriously considering studying Veterinary Science at University, which will give them invaluable skills and insight to the field", says Dr.Scott Bainbridge, veterinarian and founder of the Future Vet Kids Camp.
The Junior Vet program (14-16) will expose them to everything from equine to marine medicine. From race horses to sea horses and just about everything in between! Our Junior Vets will try theirhand at blood draws and suturing, work through a real veterinary case study and be exposed to a host of creatures big and small.Includes a visit to SIMS (Sydney Institute of Marine sciences) and Seaforth Animal Hospital.
Highlights of the Wombat program (campers 9-12) include
learning the basic skills in working with animals, such as animal husbandry, handling and basic medical care. Through interactive discussions, demonstrations and hands-on opportunities, the kids get to work through their own veterinary case study from diagnosis to treatment and as part of the program, all Wombats will be camp certified in Pet First Aid and a trip to the Cat Protection Society and a farm at Calmsley Hill.
The Kookaburras (campers 12-14), is a specialised program that explores the technical side of veterinary medicine including suturing techniques, a veterinary case study and demonstrations on how to draw blood. Facilitated by Dr. Scott Bainbridge, this program lets campers discover what kind of vet they want to be and involves a unique behind the scene tour ofTaronga Zoo and Featherdale Wildlife Park.
The camp continues to work with organisations that have a shared commitment to education and animal welfare including the Golden Retriever Rescue, SASH Vets and Dr. Lisa Chimes, Cat Protection Society, Greyhound Rescue, RSPCA Yagoona and the Taronga Conservation Society Australia to name a few.
