Reeves Whalen Selected As Finalist For Prestigious 'Young Outstanding Lawyer Of The Year' Award

Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) December 17, 2010 - Reeves Whalen, an associate at Burg Simpson, was selected as a finalist for Colorado Bar Association's (CBA) 2010 "Gary L. McPherson Young Outstanding Lawyer of the Year" award.

The award is given to attorneys under 37 years old or in the first three years of practice. Winners are chosen from nominees, and candidates must be in good standing of the CBA and show commitment to civic participation.

Mr. Whalen focuses his practice on commercial litigation, products liability, mass torts, and personal injury law. He represents clients in a broad range of civil and commercial disputes.

"It's a great honor to be acknowledged by the Colorado Bar Association, and to be in the running for such an esteemed award," said Mr. Whalen. "It confirms my belief that if you make strong commitments to your work and community, only good things will come."

Outside of his practice, Mr. Whalen serves on the Board of Directors for The American Constitution Society, The Golden Triangle Association, and Save Our Youth. He is a former Finance Chairman and currently Co-Captain for House District 5 and currently sits on the Executive Committee for the Democratic Party of Denver. Mr. Whalen served on Mayor Hickenlooper's 2010 Gubernatorial Campaign Finance Committee and currently serves on State Senator Chris Romer's 2011 Mayoral Campaign Finance Committee.

In addition, Mr. Whalen dedicates a substantial amount of time to philanthropic and community-based activities. In 2009, Reeves traveled to Haiti to build an orphanage outside of Port Au Prince with Center of Hope. He later raised funds to help finance a group of medical professionals traveling to the region to assist in earthquake relief efforts through NOAH NY.

In 2010, Mr. Whalen organized and participated in several key policy initiatives, including a seminar on immigration reform, "Arizona SB 1070 & Beyond", moderated a forum on education reform called "Educator Effectiveness", and in December, he created and organized "Women in Law, Politics & Media" through Girl's Incorporated of Metro Denver. He has served as a youth mentor through the Denver Rescue Mission's Save Our Youth Mentorship program and annually participates in the Denver Bar Association's Guest Teacher program in cooperation with the Denver Public Schools.

Mr. Whalen earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Dickinson College and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University Of Denver Sturm College Of Law. While in Law School, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Lawrence A. Manzanares, Denver District Court.

Mr. Whalen was recognized by Colorado Law Week as a Finalist for its "Up & Coming Attorney" Edition and in 2010 was selected by Colorado Law Week as a Finalist for "The Complete Lawyer" Award.
