Bergen-Passaic, NJ (1888PressRelease) May 01, 2014 - Newark has been welcoming guests since its first hotel opened in 1670, and after 344 years New Jersey's largest city will open its first Visitor Center. The location is The Berger Organization's Military Park Building at 60 Park Place in the heart of the city's downtown, and the opening will be celebrated with a Red Carpet Ribbon Cutting on Friday, April 25, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The official ribbon-cutting is set for 3 p.m.

The facility, located across from historic Military Park, will feature a 38-foot wall mural, a video display wall sponsored by Panasonic, and an array of literature from area attractions, keeping travelers up to date.

The Greater Newark Convention & Visitor Bureau was founded in 2008 under the Brick City Development Corp to serve as the city's marketing arm. Over the past two years, the organization has worked to promote Newark's many cultural and recreational venues, hotels, restaurants, and more.

With its location, the historic 250,000-square-foot, 89-year-old Military Park Building is proximate to Newark Liberty International Airport and major thoroughfares, and is within walking distance of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and Penn Station, which provides 20-minute NJ Transit and PATH service to Manhattan.
