A blood and whiskey themed multi-media event that will change the Brooklyn rock scene forever!
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) August 06, 2011 - Friday Sept 16th@ 17 Frost
The Debutante Ball. A bloody-knife fighting, whiskey drinking, visually spectacular event at the beautiful Williamsburg art space, 17 Frost (L or G train to Lorimer/Metropolitan) that is sure to change the way people experience the indie rock scene! As Brooklyn bands evolve away from the typical New York clubs, indie rock newcomer, Red Bedlam, have created a way to stay far ahead of the trend. For their album release party, they've assembled a group of talented artists in several mediums (visual, dance, writing, film and music) to create one unforgettable night. The evening will incorporate a gallery show of stunning, original artwork, sexy Butoh dancing, dark, Americana music and, of course, great whiskey.
"People don't care about all of the rock clubs in WIlliamsburg and the Lower East side anymore. They're tired of going to see shows with no cohesion and some jerk at the door who wants to know what band they came to see. The scene has moved into alternative spaces that offer a whole experience besides just the rock show." says Red Bedlam trumpeter James Hession III. Taking the next step in this developing art community trend is the "Brooklyn Debutante Ball" on September 16th. It leads the way in a new form of music art-event collaboration, standing out in an oversaturated music scene. Brooklyn band "Red Bedlam" collaborated with visual artist Kristen Haskell (www.kristenhaskell.com) to tell a story through prose, music, art and dance.
The result is an EP album and graphic-novel style illustrated short story about a man struggling to escape from a surreal and dreamlike desert world. The story is dark and visceral, as is the illustration and art To introduce their progeny to society, the two booked beautiful performance space 17Frost in Williamsburg (www.17frost.com) where it would feel more like an art installation than a rock show. They also enlisted the help of Azumi Oe, Japanese Butoh dancer to interpret the story through dance. A night of whiskey and blood in the town of a million options, this is sure to be better than another night at Piano's.
Red Bedlam is the vision of Joshua Collins. He's played in an assortment of New York bands, most recently co-writing the album "Martian's Bloom" with Linfinity. The project was included in NPR's spring picks for 2010, Called "Timeless" by the Washington Post and given three stars by "Rolling Stone". "Pitchfork" wrote that "Guitarist Josh Collins in particular proves an apt foil, dogging the singer's vocal melodies and slicing against his notes menacingly." He has scored and arranged for string quartets in both indie rock and film settings. He has toured nationally with a multitude of bands including Murder by Death, Ha Ha Tonka, Ladycop and Matt Hopper. Red Bedlam is planning a European tour in the spring.
