(1888PressRelease) March 26, 2013 - Department of Biotechnology, IIT Madras today announced its upcoming biotechnology festival Biofest 2013. After a hugely successful first edition, Biofest is back with an aim of promoting research and innovation in various fields of Bioengineering and Biosciences. Biofest promises to attract the brightest minds across the varied fields of Biotechnology, apart from the leading personalities in academia and industry. It will be held on 13th and 14th April with the aim of bringing together the best Bio-engineers and enthusiasts.

With 9 major events including Forensics, BioDocks, BioRobotics and BioBiz, Biofest 2013 pledges to promote creative thinking and invoke the scientific spirit among its participants. In addition to this, there are events like Biofest Open Quiz, Streax and GD Challenge, which aim to promote interdisciplinary participation and blend innovation with entertainment. Along with these, several eminent personalities from the field of Medical Biotechnology are expected to enlighten students with their lectures, conferences and workshops.

Speaking on the enthusiasm displayed by the participants, Dr. Vignesh Muthuvijayan, chief mentor of the Biofest Organizing Team said "The sheer enthusiasm being shown by people for Biofest was all anticipated. Biofest Open Quiz:
One of the crowd-stealers of Biofest '12, Biofest Open Quiz amalgamates biosciences with the exciting field of quizzing. The quiz comprises of questions covering wide-ranging topics like genetics, software industry, environment, movies and much more, with a pinch of the 'Bio' element, thus giving an opportunity for bio-enthusiasts and quizzers to test their mettle with the best.

Forensics:
Get ready to rack your brains to search for subtly hidden clues and trace evidences near the crime scene, uncover fingerprints, perform various hands-on activities at Biofest's one and only, unique mystery solving event. Don the role of a detective in Forensics at Biofest 2013 and nab the cold blooded killer!

Streax:
A first of its kind event, for all those arty souls out there. Dexterity, originality and some kitsch are all that is required for this fun event that requires participants to streak innovative designs on a petri dish of Agar Agar. Agar Art involves growing bacteria in Agar plates such that they form beautiful images once they reach maturity.
