- Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) May 14, 2015 - "What if America's sons didn't have to grow up without their fathers? What difference could it make? It's a problem that's been going on for too long and at too great a cost." -Oprah Winfrey
Karlton Harris is a father, youth pastor, author, and prison re-entry consultant. He is the creator and executive producer of the family-friendly reality television show, "S6ns," which features himself, his wife, Karla, and their six sons. In S6ns, Karlton demonstrates the importance of fathers being active in their children's lives. The show's purpose is to eradicate fatherless homes in America. A special Pre-Father's Day screening of the season two premiere episode of S6ns titled "Six Sons: Raising Fathers" will be hosted on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Lighthouse Church Of All Nations located at 4501 W. 127th Street in Alsip, IL from 6:30pm-7:30pm. Doors open at 6pm.
This special Pre-Father's Day event is dedicated to all fathers throughout Chicago and its surrounding cities. Fathers are encouraged to bring their families for a fun and positive night out. The screening of "Six Sons: Raising Fathers" is a fundraising event. This event is open to the public and donations will be accepted. All funds raised will be used for the promotion and production of Season 2. Adult attendees will receive a gift bag at the end of the event. S6ns strives to leave attendees inspired to become more active in their children lives and motivated to assist the fatherless children and support the single mothers in their communities.
S6ns features Karlton Harris who is always looking for a "teachable moment" with his six sons, James, 21 (an aspiring FBI Agent), Michael, 13 (an aspiring NBA/MLB player), Joseph, 11 (an aspiring robotic engineer), Isaiah, 8 (family helper), Josiah, 8 (dad's armor bearer) and Karlton II, 6 a.k.a. "K2" (aspiring entertainer). Karlton always find "teachable moments" surrounding topics such as work ethic, education, etiquette, and entrepreneurship. The show also features Karlton's wife, Karla who is a full-time homemaker and aspiring author. She is known on the show as an "extreme couponer." Karla's first book Money Saved Is Money Earned, Coupons are Cash! is scheduled to be released on June 15, 2015. Karla says, "My role on the show is to help homemakers and single mothers leverage their time and money. I accomplish this by demonstrating how to save money by couponing. In all reality, coupons really are cash." Karla further states, "It's impossible to address fatherhood without effectively equipping the single mothers. Our goal is to get more fathers actively involved, but we know despite our efforts single mothers will still exist and need our assistance."
When Karlton is not spending quality time with his family, he teaches incarcerated parents how to reduce recidivism through family reconciliation. For those who are serious about change, upon release, Mr. Harris assists them with family mediation, mentoring, and employment services. All of which are tools to reducing recidivism. This is important to the Chicago native who too grew up without a father and spent six years incarcerated.
With over 7.4 million children with a parent incarcerated in America [US Department of Health & Human Services], S6ns addresses the issues of mass incarceration, the school to prison pipeline and successful re-entry. One of the goals of S6ns is to give fathers and families of all walks of life an opportunity to pursue the "America Dream." When asked why he created the show, Karlton states, "This is by no means a big Hollywood production. Our show is the result of a dedicated father and family working with a small budget, but a ton of love and this resulted in us being able to pull off something pretty remarkable."
Karlton and his six sons made a guest appearance on Oprah Winfrey's "Fatherless Sons Lifeclass" which aired July 7, 2013.
Season One of S6ns currently airs in Chicago on "cable25" every Wednesday at 9 p.m. via Comcast, RCN, and WOW cable providers.
