  • (1888PressRelease) August 20, 2011 - This is the first LNT Trainors Course to be held in the Philippines as sanctioned by the LNT Center for Outdoor Ethics based in Boulder, Colorado, USA. It is designed for educators, guides, outdoor mentors or coaches, professionals, and other outdoor practitioners.

Twelve individuals participated and graduated from the LNT Outdoor Ethics Trainors Backpacking program. They are now certified by LNT Center for Outdoor Ethics and equipped with the proficiency and skills to teach Leave No Trace techniques and ethics to their clients, students, and outdoor users in critical protected areas. This makes a total of 14 LNT trainers in the country who are certified by the LNT Center for Outdoor Ethics.

The four-day program helped participants learn how to teach the seven principles of LNT ethics and techniques. It also taught them low impact skills and practices in the outdoor community. It educated them on the concepts of the LNT curriculum in a variety of settings-schools, camp, parks, wilderness, and protected areas.

The workshop topics include the underlying ethics and seven principles of LNT, including Plan Ahead and Prepare, Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces, Dispose of Waste Properly, Leave What You Find, Minimize Campfire Impacts, Respect Wildlife, and Be Considerate of Other Visitors.

The program was conducted by Anthony Terence "Totits" Ocampo, an LNT Master Educator. He finished his Master Educators program with the National Outdoor Leadership School, which was conducted in the Quachita National Park, Arkansas, USA. Ocampo is currently the Deputy Director for Adult Programs of KAC.

KAC is one of the programs under RAFI's Leadership & Citizenship focus area, one of the five focus areas of RAFI where future leaders are nurtured to prepare them to effect change. Its other focus areas are Integrated Development, Micro-finance & Entrepreneurship, Culture & Heritage, and Education.
