Raffles Dubai to Support Earth Hour 2011
Raffles Dubai will once again pledge its support for Earth Hour 2011, a global environmental awareness event organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), where individuals, companies, governments and communities are invited to show their support for action on climate change.
- (1888PressRelease) March 24, 2011 - DUBAI - On Saturday 26th March 2011 at 20:30 hrs (local time), Raffles Dubai (http://www.raffles.com/dubai ) will go dark for one hour by switching off its main lights, including the glowing pinnacle of the pyramid and the terraces. Public areas such as the lobby, restaurants and bars will be illuminated by candles. In an effort to involve Raffles Dubai's residents in this global phenomenon, the hotel will encourage them to support this action within the privacy of their own rooms and suites by shutting off the lights and gathering in one area of the hotel at RED Lounge (http://www.raffles.com/EN_RA/Property/RDB/Restaurants_Bars/RED_Lounge_Terrace.htm ) where candles will be lit and guests can enjoy the view of the Dubai city skyline supporting Earth Hour from the terrace.
Earth Hour began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Earth Hour had since become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome's Colosseum, have all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour. In March 2010, hundreds of millions of people took part in the fourth Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2010 the world's largest global climate change initiative.
