Race tradition continues - Promotes a drug-free 2025
Runners at this race literally took strides towards a drug-free 2025.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) January 11, 2025 - Continuing a Clearwater tradition since 1989, nearly 1,000 runners arrived to Clearwater’s Coachman Park on Saturday, January 4th 2025 to participate in the 34th Annual Say No to Drugs (SNTD) Holiday Classic. The event promoted living a drug-free life and provided educational materials from the Truth About Drugs program.
“35 years ago, a local runner wanted to do something to carry forward Nancy Reagan’s message of saying no to drugs,” said Sonia Fabemoli, the Executive Director for the Foundation for a Drug-Free World Florida. “From this simple purpose, Clearwater now has a race that not only attracts runners of all ages, but also encourages and supports people to live drug-free lives.”
In addition to the 10k, 5k and 1-mile kids run, the event included a pancake breakfast and an expo for runners and their supporters to learn more about enjoying a healthy and happy 2025.
“At the race, 520 people signed a pledge to be drug-free,” said Ms. Fabemoli. “People are concerned about the rise in drug abuse and it is encouraging to see so many others taking action to do something about the issue.”
Attendees also availed themselves of the Truth About Drugs booklets.
“The booklets use the facts, not scare tactics,” said Ms. Fabemoli. “The program is used by more than 1,200 organizations in 180 countries, and this would not be possible without the support of the Church of Scientology.”
After witnessing the spiritual decline of those who abused drugs, Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier that prevents any widespread social progress: drugs and other toxic substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”
Inspired by the words and works of Mr. Hubbard, the Church of Scientology and its parishioners are dedicated to eradicating drug addiction through education, specifically through their support of the Truth About Drugs program.
