Quirky Author Revamps Classic Fairy Tales to Empower Girls
Tired of telling your little (and not so little) girls the same classic fairy tale stories that put them in the 'waiting around for Prince Charming' mode of life? Author Filigree Whitmore sure is...and she's done something about it.
- (1888PressRelease) January 29, 2015 - Sick and tired of telling and retelling your little (and not so little) girls the same classic fairy tale stories that put them in the 'waiting around for Prince Charming' mode of life? Wishing your impressionable young daughter could enjoy and emulate tales with a slightly more 'tough girl' edge to them instead of the passive 'save me' attitude we've come to expect from yesterday's classics? First time author Whitmore is and she's decided to do something about it. In her brand new book, "The Modern Damsel: Updated Fairy Tales With Some Girl Power, Book One", she revamps those tired, old, and sexist ideals and replaces them with some empowering ones that today's girls of all ages can better relate - and look up - to. Happily ever after is now about self reliance, confidence, and the courage to take on new challenges.
In her book's Forward, she explains:
"The time has come to shrug off the old fairy tales of yesterday and replace them with stories true to the issues faced by today's young woman. Sure, these traditional tales have their place in history and I hope they are never forgotten. But while they have entertained countless millions, they have also shaped and molded certain stigmas into being; stigmas that continue to hamper the limitless female potential. We are no longer thoughtless, brainless damsels in distress who require the rescuing of a handsome prince in order to find happiness. No longer do we wait patiently for someone else's time frame before it's finally convenient for them guide us past our daunting obstacles. No more will we view the societal-accepted 'pretty' and 'conforming' as a constant sign of goodness while the 'not as pretty' or 'different' as automatically bad qualities. And we don't need to be born as princesses in order to rule! Hans Christian, Grimms brothers - sorry boys, but it's time for some updates".
The release includes the author's versions of such fairy tales as Rapunzel, The Matchstick Girl, The Little Red Hen, and more. Additional books in the series will be forthcoming but release dates have not been announced as of yet.
Book One of the series has been released on Amazon Kindle and is currently priced at only $3.97. "The Modern Damsel: Updated Fairy Tales With Some Girl Power, Book One" can be found on Amazon's website.
