Quickswap Wheel System Designed by Zach Conrad of ZCD Studio
ZCD Product Design Studio carefully worked in conjuction with Roller Derby Referee, Brian Krell "Cruel Hand Luke",to conceptualize and develop what we consider the best roller sport wheel system ever invented! Switching-out a roller sport wheels (skateboards, longboards, roller skates etc) takes seconds and is a far cry from laboring to take off Nylok nuts and sealed bearings.
- (1888PressRelease) October 14, 2014 - Introducing a new invention to the world always comes with a unique set of hurdles. The Quickswap Wheel System, designed by Zach Conrad of ZCD Studio in Denver, CO, is facing these hurdles and taking the world of roller sports to a whole new level. The Quickswap Wheel revolutionary design helps skateboarders, long boarders, and roller derby contestants change their wheels with no tools; just a flick of the wrist! To get this project underway, the ZCD team is launching its official Quickswap Kickstarter campaign October 14, 2014. If successfully funded, the Quickswap product line will be ready March 2015.
Meet the Inventors of Quickswap - The Wheel Reinvented
Zach Conrad, the founder and principle designer of ZCD Studio, is the work and design force behind Quickswap. Zach was a world-class cyclist in the USA and Europe and graduated at the top of his class with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design from Denver School of Design. Zach is a passionate competitor whose ability to overcome obstacles and excel beyond the competition was developed at an early age, and his love for wheels of all types, has fueled his enthusiasm for the Quickswap Wheel System.
Brian Krell is the visionary behind the Quickswap wheel. As a Rocky Mountain Roller girls referee, "Cool Hand Luke" found it laborious and time consuming to take off Nylok nuts and sealed bearings during bouts. He envisioned a wheel that can be changed with just a flick of a wrist, no tools required. Brian, together with Zach, conceptualized and developed Quickswap, possibly the best roller sport wheel system ever invented!
How does the Quickswap Wheel System works?
The patent pending QuickSwap design consists of a modular "tire" that affixes to an autonomous hub which houses a very robust spring-loaded lock ring. These specially engineered locking hubs also accept standard bearing formats. To install a Quickswap tire, simply align the modular tire with the hub, push and click! To release the modular tire, simply press your index finger and thumb into the opposing release slots on the hub face, twist the lock ring clockwise then remove by pulling outward with your opposing hand. If you prefer our tamper resistant hub, simply use our Quickswap Key to disengage the lock ring using the same motion. Changing your wheels simply doesn't get any easier.
Quickswap can be used on skateboards, longboards, and roller skates and is as reliable and robust as a standard wheel. All Quickswap hub assemblies and tire rims are made from ultra-high performance materials with extremely high tear, compression, and shear strength. At over 5mm thick, both the rim and lock ring engagement teeth are virtually indestructible. Two high-force stainless steel compression springs insure full lock ring engagement, even under high rotational forces and intense vibrations. The "gap-free" structural design eliminates structural flex and insures continuity between component layers during use.
Beyond the quick release feature, here are some of the benefits of using Quickswap:
- 5 standard diameters and widths - with more slotted for development
- A plethora of hardnesses & color options
- Tamper resistant keyed or un-keyed hub & tire options
- Less Urethane = lighter overall weight
- Less residual hardware cost - installing the hub set once = no need for extra wheels with redundant bearings
- Go Green - less urethane material + a one-time hub set install = less overall waste into our landfills
- Economical- purchase additional tires at a lower price than comparable traditional wheels.
