Publication of CEN Amendment to EN71-13:2021 for Certain Games and Kits
EN 71-13:2021+A2:2024 has been published, amending EU national standards for olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games.
- (1888PressRelease) February 04, 2025 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 012.25, summarizing the European Committee for Standardization’s (CEN) publication of EN 71-13:2021+A2:2024. This is the latest toy safety standard for requirements on the use of substances and mixtures in olfactory board games, cosmetic kits, games involving tasting or exploring different flavors, as well as supplementary sets applicable to all of these items.
Issued in November 2024, EN 71-13:2021+A2:2024 will be given the status of a national standard by May 2025. Conflicting standards must be withdrawn by this date at the very latest, with EN 71-13:2021+A2:2024 expected to be harmonized under Directive 2009/48/EC on toy safety once it has been officially accepted by the European Commission and published in the Official Journal of the EU.
Compared with the earlier EN 71-13:2021+A1:2022, the new amendment includes changes to the European foreword, as well as new requirements for ‘child-resistant containers’ and closure tests for containers under Annex E.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 012.25 includes a helpful table with highlights of EN 71-13:2021+A2:2024.
Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 012.25 for more details.
