- (1888PressRelease) June 27, 2014 - PTSD in Children Growing Up and Its Influences on Adult Life looks behind post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in a very real context, leaving the reader under no illusion about the very devastating consequences of having PTSD as a child and how, without the right support and treatment, there will be millions of traumatized adults with PTSD across the globe when these children reach adulthood.
Her latest book examines what happens when these children reach adulthood, have their own children, and how the legacy of emotional trauma continues.
It also explores the seed of the trauma, how trauma can be inherited and examines a number of effective coping strategies and therapies for sufferers of PTSD and their families.
This is the second book written by Orla Kelly in the post-traumatic stress disorder area.
When asked about the history behind the second book, Kelly said, "Today many children have learned through experience that the world can be a dangerous place where their security and safety are under threat.
Children are growing up today absolutely traumatized by overwhelming events which have exceeded their capacity to cope and are at high risk of developing PTSD.
Historically PTSD was associated with returning war veterans and never with a childhood condition. However children are very much at risk of developing PTSD from a number of sources.
We may not be able to change human nature, but once we understand the unnecessary price paid by millions of innocent children, we may be better able to treat their wounds".
