  • Modesto, CA (1888PressRelease) July 20, 2010 - Providing a sense of family, a structured environment and a fresh start for approximately 52 boys ages 9 to 17, the Excell Center in Turlock, Aspiranet's residential treatment program, is in need of a fresh start itself.

With over 500 gallons of paint at the ready, residents, staff, local contractors and community supporters will soon launch a much-needed face lift project at the Excell Center's 11-acre campus located on the outskirts of Turlock. The large-scale undertaking includes painting and repairing 6 houses, several offices, a gymnasium and the center's on-site school structures.

The local community has stepped up to help with Dunn-Edwards donating painting supplies and local contractors chipping in hundreds of gallons of unused paint. Todd Minner, Dunn-Edwards district manager, and Larry Dunn, Dunn-Edwards sales representative, have also shared painting tips and their expertise on surface preparation with Excell Center residents and staff.

"Participation in this project is teaching our boys important lessons about cooperation, responsibility and giving back," said Art Chaparro, director of development for Aspiranet. "In addition they are learning to 'go green' by recycling donated paint rather than allowing it to go to waste."

The motto of Excell Center is Youth Learning Responsibility, Self-Discipline and Cooperation as a Foundation for Success. "Vocational training is a big component in the overall development and enrichment plans of our students" said Chris Essary, Excell regional director. "Working with professionals in the painting and construction industries will provide these young men with an opportunity to learn a new skill and will expose them to a trade that they can use later in life."

The local community can help the Excell Center by donating time, talent or cash contributions. In addition to painters, Excell staffers are seeking carpenters, roofers, electricians and journeymen to volunteer their time and help the boys with much-needed repairs to various campus buildings. Prep work began earlier this summer and on July 27, 28 and 29, painting will commence. Aspiranet hopes to complete the project in the fall.

The Excell Center is a residential treatment program providing a safe, structured, homelike campus environment for boys ages 9 to 17, where they learn core values, develop greater self-esteem, establish positive relationships with others and continue their education. The Excell Center campus consists of 6 family homes plus offices, a school site, two pools and a gymnasium. Participants in the program live in traditional family homes and learn to handle life with a new attitude and new direction. Staff members serve as mentors and role models and guide youths whose behavioral problems prevent them from living at home or in a traditional foster home.
