SGS publishes overview of New York State bill introduced to ban PTFE in cookware.
- (1888PressRelease) February 15, 2025 - SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 022.25, reporting on a bill to ban polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in cookware in the US state of New York.
PTFE is a substance used widely for its non-stick properties. Research has now linked it to several health conditions, including thyroid disorders, chronic kidney and liver disease and cancer.
New York State’s SB 1767 bill, introduced on January 13, 2025, proposes a ban on the use of PTFE in cookware and the addition of a new Title 12 to Article 37 of the state’s environmental law. If approved, the ban will become effective in January 2026.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 022.25 includes a useful table that summarizes the highlights of SB 1767.
