Project LightY just landed on Kickstarter to transform empty bottles into design lamps
LightY is a smart cap that light on your bottles with just a knock on the table.
- (1888PressRelease) December 16, 2015 - LightY head is also customizable with a 3D printer. It fits on a wide range of bottles and can be used in infinite ways. Like... You are in the middle of the night. Half sleeping. Room completely dark. And you need a light. It is a fact that you will destroy half of the things on your bedside table. Knock on the table and LightY will help you!
LightY is a project that was born on the shores of the Lake of Como, Italy, by Paolo and myself, Simone.
The idea was triggered by the high number of beautiful glass bottles that use to end in the bin.
So, very simply, we made a shelf full of bottles and we thought: wouldn't be cool to turn them on at the same time? So we created LightY which is able to detect vibrations like a knock and respond to it.
We spent lot of time testing different sensors and LEDs that could fit inside, then we selected a 10mm LED and the piezo-sensor LDT0-028K.
Both controlled by an Atmega328 chip powered by 2 cell battery CR2032, easily changeable. Then we realised our case prototype in a studio of 3D printing and now we just launched our project on Kickstarter.
